Gus Kikin to lead PBNU for 2026-2031 after 472 votes in Jombang
New: AHWA chose him by consensus after five candidates won written approval from the elected Rais Aam.
KH Abdul Hakim Mahfudz, or Gus Kikin, was elected chairman of Pengurus Besar Nahdlatul Ulama for the 2026-2031 khidmah term at NU's 35th Muktamar at Pondok Pesantren Bahrul Ulum, Tambakberas, Jombang, on Monday (31/8/2026). He had earlier received 472 votes from muktamirin, the highest among five candidates in Plenary Session V. After that, nine ulama in the Ahlul Halli wal Aqdi mechanism deliberated and appointed him by consensus, with written approval from the elected Rais Aam, KH Miftachul Akhyar. The four other names put forward were KH Zulfa Mustofa, KH Abdussalam Shohib, KH Yahya Cholil Staquf, and KH Abdul Ghaffar Rozin. Gus Kikin currently leads Pesantren Tebuireng and was elected chairman of PWNU Jawa Timur in 2024.
