Yenny Wahid Criticizes Unrest at NU's 35th Muktamar in Jombang

Yenny Wahid criticized the demonstration that turned chaotic during the 35th Muktamar of Nahdlatul Ulama in Jombang, East Java. She said anger and damage to facilities are not part of NU's culture, which emphasizes deliberation to resolve differences. She referred to participants who were disappointed with the muktamar's decision and vented that frustration through acts of vandalism, including damaging facilities such as AC. Yenny also asked that the decision on political iddah be accepted because it had been agreed by the muktamar forum. According to the daughter of Abdurrahman Wahid, distance from political parties must be maintained so NU remains neutral and adheres to national politics. She hoped AHWA would choose the right Rais Aam and candidate for PBNU chairman.
