GP Ansor takes over security for NU congress in Jombang
The move followed a shoving match at the congress venue over nomination rules for the PBNU chairman race.
GP Ansor has taken over security for the 35th Nahdlatul Ulama Congress in Jombang, East Java, after tensions erupted during a series of sessions. PP GP Ansor Chairman Addin Jauharudin, who is also the congress security coordinator, said all agenda items must continue through the closing ceremony on schedule, as planned by the committee. He warned that anyone deliberately disrupting the congress would be dealt with so the situation returns to normal. Earlier, supporters of one candidate for PBNU chairman were involved in a shoving match with security officers at access to Plenary Session IV in the Bahrul Ulum Islamic boarding school complex on Sunday, 30 August 2026. The confrontation was triggered by objections to the results of talks on nomination rules, including a one-year cooling-off period for former political officeholders.
