Government on emergency alert after M7.7 NTT quake kills 2

The central government activated emergency response measures after a magnitude 7.7 earthquake shook Nusa Tenggara Timur on Saturday morning and killed two people in the El Say Port area of Sikka Regency. State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said President Prabowo Subianto had received the latest report, while coordination was carried out with Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno, Basarnas, BMKG, BNPB, and NTT Governor Melki Laka Lena. According to BMKG, the quake struck at 04.58 WIB or 05.58 WITA, centered offshore 38 kilometers northeast of Mbay, Nagekeo Regency, at a depth of 15 kilometers. The shaking was felt in Nagekeo, Sikka, Manggarai Barat, Bima, and parts of South Sulawesi. BMKG also issued an early tsunami warning, with waves measured in Sikka, Labuan Bajo, and Dompu.
