Manggarai earthquake survivor returns to work at gas station
The Ruteng station operator is still living in a tent, but kept working as residents needed fuel for post-quake travel.
Valentinus Jantur, 39, returned to duty at SPBU Mbaumuku 54.865.01 in Ruteng, Manggarai Regency, a day after a magnitude 7.7 quake struck the area on 15 August 2026. He and his family were still sheltering in a simple tent in front of their house after running outside when the shaking began.
Valentinus said the trauma is still there and his children have not gone back to school. But he chose to put his uniform back on because residents' need for fuel has not stopped during the disaster recovery effort. In his view, serving affected residents is part of his job.
Pertamina also distributed aid to gas station operators affected by the earthquake. Pertamina Corporate Secretary Arya Dwi Paramita said the operators are on the front lines of energy services while still dealing with recovery at home.
