ADNOC tanker burns after missile strike in Strait of Hormuz
The U.A.E. and Saudi Arabia blamed Iran, while ship traffic through the oil route reportedly fell 33 percent.
A vessel owned by Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) caught fire in the southern corridor of the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday (8/8) after being hit by a missile attack while passing through. ADNOC said the incident caused no deaths or injuries, and its fire-fighting vessel and oil-spill response ship ADNOC AR01 were dispatched to the scene. The United Arab Emirates later condemned Iran and said the attack on the commercial vessel violated freedom of navigation. Saudi Arabia issued a similar condemnation and said the attack disrupted the security of global energy supplies. Amid stalled follow-up negotiations between Iran and the U.S., Kpler data cited by CNBC showed ship traffic through the Strait of Hormuz fell 33 percent on Friday from the previous day.
