Iran-Oman plan to reopen Strait of Hormuz stalled over sanctions demands

A tentative Iran-Oman plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and resume wider U.S.-Iran talks stalled after new Iranian demands emerged, PBS NewsHour reported. The proposed temporary arrangement would have routed inbound ships closer to Iran and outbound ships closer to Oman, with no tolls and demining of the strait, according to four regional officials and one senior U.S. official cited by PBS. The deal was also meant to restart a 60-day clock for a cease-fire and broader negotiations. But a senior U.S. official and three Arab officials said members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps intervened, seeking commitments to lift the blockade and sanctions, allow Iran to sell oil again in dollars, and add tolls.
