Prabowo approves foreign aid to fight wildfire haze
BNPB is refining the technical plan as more than 60,000 personnel are already deployed across six provinces.
President Prabowo Subianto approved acceptance of aid from neighboring countries to handle forest and land fires that have triggered cross-border haze. Foreign Minister Arrmanatha Nasir said discussions on the aid have already reached the technical stage at the National Disaster Management Agency, BNPB. He said the government had first mobilized domestic resources on a large scale. As of 13 October, a total of 60.177 personnel had been deployed, backed by aircraft and helicopters for water bombing and weather modification in high-risk areas. Newly appointed BNPB chief Kristomei Sianturi was also asked to accelerate fire suppression. In Malaysia, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said his government had tried to coordinate with Indonesia, while Singapore said it was ready to help if needed.
