Prabowo approves foreign aid to fight Indonesia wildfires
BNPB is handling technical talks as haze from last month’s fires has spread to neighboring countries.
President Prabowo Subianto has approved receiving assistance from other countries to help respond to forest and land fires in several parts of Indonesia. Foreign Minister Arrmanatha Christiawan Nasir said the approval has been granted and the process is now being discussed at the technical level by BNPB. He said Indonesia is also using the ASEAN Coordinationg Center for Transboundary Haze Pollutan Control mechanism to address cross-border haze. Since August, the ASEAN Secretariat, which serves as the interim office of ACC THP, has set a Level 3 alert for transboundary haze in Southeast Asia. The government said it has regularly shared situational data and response measures, including deploying thousands of personnel, helicopters, water-bombing aircraft, and weather modification operations. Haze from the forest and land fires since last month has also blanketed Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand.
