Civil coalition protests TNI, Komcad role in Jakarta protest
A June 11 Defense Ministry letter ordered about 500 civil servants in Komcad to attend a June 12 alert roll call.
The Civil Society Coalition for Security Sector Reform protested the involvement of TNI and the alleged deployment of the Reserve Component, or Komponen Cadangan, in securing a student protest in Jakarta on June 12. The crowd, including members of BEM UI, was briefly held up in the Tosari area and on Jalan MH Thamrin while heading to Bundaran HI. The coalition said using the military to face a civilian demonstration was a mistake because protest control should fall under civilian authorities. In its statement, the coalition cited Defense Ministry letter No. B/752/VI/2026/BACADNAS dated June 11, 2026, which ordered about 500 civil servant members of Komcad to attend an Apel Siaga on June 12. Amnesty International Indonesia also said the presence of TNI in securing the action risked intimidation and did not fit its defense function.
