Death toll from NTT earthquake rises to 38 on Saturday afternoon
BNPB first cut the initial death report from 2 to 1, then raised it sharply to 38 in a 15.00 WIB update.
BNPB reported that the death toll from the major earthquake in Nusa Tenggara Timur rose to 38 by Saturday at 15.00 WIB. BNPB head Suharyanto said the figure was an update as field verification continued throughout the day. In an earlier report, BNPB revised the fatality count from two to one based on an update through 08.00 WIB. The death reported in that morning update came from Kabupaten Sikka, while injuries were recorded in Kabupaten Sikka and Kabupaten Nagekeo. The magnitude 7.7 quake prompted a series of updates on casualties and damage across NTT.
