BNPB logs 3,752 aftershocks in NTT, evacuees rise to 92,735
BMKG estimates it will take about three to four weeks for aftershock activity to taper off after the M7.7 Flores quake.
BNPB recorded 3,752 aftershocks in the Nusa Tenggara Timur earthquake zone through Thursday at 16.00 WIB, with some tremors still strong enough to be felt by residents. One aftershock struck Thursday at 10.47 local time with a magnitude of 5.7. As aftershock activity remained high, the number of evacuees jumped to 92,735 people, up 33,088 from the previous 59,647. BNPB urged residents to check the condition of buildings before returning to quake-damaged homes. Earlier, Suharyanto said aftershocks could still occur for two to three weeks. BMKG also estimated that the decay of post-quake activity from the magnitude 7.7 quake in Flores would take around three to four weeks.
