NTT earthquake death toll rises to 71, evacuees top 59.647
BNPB has sent 398 tons of aid, but deliveries are still slowed by difficult access in Flores and scattered evacuees.
The death toll from the earthquake in Nusa Tenggara Timur rose by one to 71 through Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2026. The National Disaster Management Agency said the additional victim was in Nagekeo regency. At the same time, the number of evacuees across NTT reached 59.647 people, with the largest concentration in Manggarai. BNPB said handling evacuees remains the main focus because many residents have not dared return to damaged homes and still fear aftershocks. As of Aug. 18 at 18.00 WIB, air deliveries of logistics reached 165 tons, while total aid sent from Aug. 15-18 reached 398 tons. Aid distribution has been hampered by Flores terrain that is hard to reach, unstable roads and evacuees spread across multiple locations.
