Trump opts for deal path with Iran as strike threat remains
New: Trump said he briefly delayed a major strike plan, while a draft deal would reopen the Strait of Hormuz within 60 days.
U.S. President Donald Trump said he still wants to reach a deal with Iran even as the military option remains ready if diplomacy fails. In Las Vegas, Trump said he would rather strike an agreement than "kill people," but added that Washington had been preparing what he called the largest attack since World War II. Trump said the plan was scrapped because there was still a chance for talks. Antara reported that the draft agreement includes reopening the Strait of Hormuz and resolving Iran's nuclear program. The New York Times, quoted by Antara, said Iran and Oman were given 60 days to agree to reopen the shipping lane.
