Oil rises as Houthis claim strike on Saudi tanker near Yanbu

What's new: Brent climbed to $80.22 a barrel as US-Iran-Oman talks over Hormuz shipping routes continued.

Oil prices moved higher Wednesday after Yemen's Iran-backed Houthis claimed they struck a Saudi Arabian tanker with a missile near Yanbu, a key Saudi crude export port on the Red Sea. Brent crude rose 1% to $80.22 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate gained 0.46% to $76.12. The reported attack came as the United States, Iran and Oman continued talks aimed at stabilizing shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. CNBC cited regional sources saying negotiators are weighing an interim arrangement in which inbound vessels would use Iran's territorial waters and outbound ships would pass through Oman's waters in coordination with Tehran. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said a deal to reopen the route could come this week.
