Iran threatens to cut Gulf power if US attacks

Iran threatened to cut off electricity to Gulf states if the United States or Israel attacked power plants in Tehran. Two Arab officials speaking to AFP said the threat was delivered after Donald Trump last week signaled a large-scale strike on Iran, believed to target energy infrastructure. Tehran’s message was aimed mainly at Gulf countries that host US military bases. After the threat emerged, the leaders of Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Qatar quickly contacted Trump to restrain the plan. According to the two officials, the Arab states’ diplomatic effort prevented the attack, while Iran’s latest warning was seen as more serious than earlier ones.
