Iran denies seeking talks, accuses U.S. of 22-day breach
Tehran says Washington has repeatedly violated the June memorandum, including new sanctions and limits on oil sales.
Iran denied President Donald Trump’s claim that Tehran had sought new talks with Washington. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said Iran did not request negotiations, even as it received requests from regional mediators and hosted a Qatari delegation in Mashhad. Tehran also accused the U.S. of repeatedly violating the memorandum of understanding signed in June, including in the first 22 days after it was signed. Iran said the breaches included new sanctions, limits on oil sales, and U.S. attacks. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Iran continued to carry out its obligations on a reciprocal basis. Amid the tensions, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf warned that the era of “one-sided agreements” had ended, while the situation in the Strait of Hormuz remained tense.
