US hits 6 Iranian coastal sites in third night of strikes
Why it matters: The renewed attacks deepen the Hormuz crisis after Iran moved to close the waterway, jolting oil markets and shipping.
The U.S. military carried out another wave of strikes across Iran, hitting coastal defense, missile, drone and maritime targets in what Central Command described as a five-hour mission. Reuters reported strikes at Bushehr, Chah Bahar, Jask, Konarak, Abu Musa and Bandar Abbas, while other reports said Qeshm island and Sirik were also hit and showed a fire burning in Bandar Abbas. The operation marked a third straight night of U.S. attacks after tanker incidents in the Strait of Hormuz and Iran’s move to close the waterway. President Donald Trump has also moved to restore a blockade of Iranian shipping, though he backed away from a proposed 20% transit fee for vessels using the strait.
