Water bombing prepared to douse Gunung Ciremai wildfire
BPBD Kuningan plans 2-3 flights from Lanud Sukani as hundreds of personnel battle steep terrain and shifting winds.
BPBD Kuningan Regency is preparing a water bombing operation to help extinguish the forest and land fire in the Gunung Ciremai National Park area, West Java. BPBD Kuningan head Indra Bayu said terrain orientation has been carried out twice to map fire points and water pickup locations, with the air operation planned for around 13.00 WIB and expected to last 2-3 flights depending on logistics. Indonesian Air Force personnel have arrived at Lanud Sukani, Majalengka, to install supporting equipment. On the ground, hundreds of joint personnel from the TNI, Polri, volunteers, firefighters, and BPBD are still working at several points such as Blok Bintangot, Panyusupan, Batu Arca, Karang Dinding, and Bukit 1.000 Bintang. Terrain above 1,000 mdpl and changing wind directions are hampering suppression efforts.
