Prabowo targets completion of all state school renovations by 2029
The government says 71,744 schools were repaired in 2026, with another 100,000 targeted for 2027 and 2028.
President Prabowo Subianto has set a target of completing renovations at all schools in Indonesia by 2029, covering elementary, junior high, high school and vocational schools, including schools in pesantren. He delivered the target in a state address at the annual session of MPR RI and the joint session of DPR RI-DPD RI at the MPR/DPR RI building in Senayan, Jakarta, on Friday, Aug. 14, 2026. Prabowo said the school repair program had reached 71,744 schools in 2026, up from about 17,000 schools the year before. The government is aiming to repair 100,000 schools in 2027 and another 100,000 in 2028. He also said repairs are being directed to the outermost and most remote areas, citing a school on Miangas Island, alongside the formation of a special task force for outer islands.
