Prabowo leads NTT quake meeting, Rp20 billion aid per regency disbursed
BNPB put the death toll at 103, while schools were told to reopen temporarily in tents.
President Prabowo Subianto led a coordination meeting on post-quake response after arriving in Nagekeo Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, on Wednesday. At the evacuation post of Yon TP 834/Wakanga Mere in Tonggurambang village, Mbay, he received a report that Rp20 billion in aid for each affected regency on Flores Island had been disbursed, while the East Nusa Tenggara provincial government had received Rp40 billion. BNPB Chief Suharyanto said the funds had been received by local governments and could only be used for disaster response. East Nusa Tenggara Governor Melki Laka Lena said Flores Timur also received assistance because it remained affected by the eruption of Mount Lewotobi. Prabowo also ordered faster handling of evacuees; the government is preparing temporary schools in tents before temporary housing and home repairs begin. BNPB said the death toll from the Aug. 15 quake rose to 103.
