Iran shuts Strait of Hormuz again as Gulf attacks widen

Iran said it had again closed the Strait of Hormuz after a warning shot hit a vessel on an unapproved route and it disabled a second ship, as fighting with the United States spread across the Gulf on July 12. US Central Command said commercial traffic was still moving through the strait and that US forces struck 140 Iranian military targets a day earlier as part of a broader campaign. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said they hit US-linked military sites in Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and elsewhere. Qatar reported three people, including a child, were hurt by falling shrapnel. India said 10 of 11 Indian nationals aboard the attacked commercial vessel GFS Galaxy off Oman had been rescued, with one still missing.
