BMKG: Kalimantan fire haze could drift into Malaysia

BMKG assesses that haze from forest and land fires in Kalimantan could be carried by the wind to neighboring countries, including Malaysia and Singapore. BMKG climatology deputy Ardhasena Sopaheluwakan said the movement of smoke follows seasonal wind patterns that occur regularly, allowing the impact to spread beyond Indonesia. BNPB is now coordinating the response to the haze. Acting head of BNPB's Center for Data, Information and Disaster Communications Berton SP Panjaitan urged affected countries not to blame one another, saying cross-border haze must be handled jointly. The government has deployed 52 aircraft for karhutla operations in six priority provinces, with 30 operating in Kalimantan and 22 in Sumatra, along with ground firefighting, water bombing, weather modification operations and additional TNI-Polri personnel.
