TNI adds 250 personnel and OMC plane for Kalbar wildfires

Kalbar has the largest burned area among six priority provinces at about 28,680 hectares, with fire risk expected to stay high through September.

TNI is reinforcing forest and land fire response in Kalimantan Barat by adding 250 personnel from Satgas Yonif TP 538/PTA and deploying a CASA A-2117 aircraft for Operasi Modifikasi Cuaca. Pangdam XII/Tanjungpura Mayjen TNI Novi Rubadi Sugito said the additional personnel were prepared for rapid response in affected areas, while the aircraft from Skadron Udara 4 was stationed to support air operations from Kalbar. According to BNPB data as of 9 August 2026, Kalimantan Barat recorded the largest burned area among six priority provinces, at about 28,680 hectares. BNPB has placed Kalbar, Riau, Sumatra Selatan, Jambi, Kalimantan Tengah, and Kalimantan Selatan at the center of the 2026 karhutla response. BMKG also recorded a rise in hot spots, while dry conditions and El Nino are increasing the risk of fires spreading in August-September.
