Prabowo and Modi push QRIS-UPI payment integration

The plan is meant to ease transactions for Indonesian and Indian consumers and businesses while supporting financial-sector resilience.

President Prabowo Subianto and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi promoted integration of a cross-border QR code-based payment system between Indonesia and India during a bilateral meeting at Istana Merdeka, Jakarta, Tuesday (7/7). The plan would connect QRIS with India’s Unified Payments Interface, or UPI. If implemented, QRIS users would be able to transact in India, while UPI users could use the system in Indonesia. The two leaders said the integration would smooth transactions for people and businesses in both countries. Prabowo also said progress in discussions on the cross-border QR payment linkage was part of efforts to strengthen cooperation in the financial sector amid 20 memorandums of understanding agreed by Indonesia and India.
