NTT imposes 14-day quake emergency through Aug. 28
The status frees up NTT’s budget for evacuations, medical care, shelters and restoration of transport and infrastructure.
The Nusa Tenggara Timur provincial government has imposed a 14-day earthquake emergency status, effective Aug. 15-28, 2026, after a quake struck Flores on Aug. 15. Governor Decree No. 305/KEP/HK/2026 was signed in Kupang to speed disaster response and ease coordination among agencies. Governor Melki Laka Lena said all resources are being directed to search and evacuation operations, health services, basic needs, shelters, and restoration of transport access and infrastructure. Response costs will be covered by the NTT provincial budget and other lawful sources. The government also asked residents to follow official instructions from BPBD, BMKG, Basarnas and TNI-Polri during the emergency period.
