New taxes in 2027 possible if Indonesia grows 6 percent in a row

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa left open the possibility of introducing new taxes in the 2027 fiscal year if Indonesia's economic growth reaches 6 percent in succession. The benchmark is for the economy to grow 6 percent by the end of 2026 and then remain at 6 percent or higher in the first quarter of 2027. Purbaya said the government will not move simply because the figure appears in one quarter, and will still assess public purchasing power before adding to the tax burden. The policy is being prepared to help meet the tax revenue target in the 2027 state budget bill of Rp2.591,4 trillion, up 12,1 percent from the 2026 state budget projection of Rp2.310,8 trillion. Under the draft, state revenue is targeted at Rp3.426 trillion through stronger tax collection, natural resource receipts, fiscal incentives for investment, and adjustments to the digital economy and global taxes.
