NTT quake death toll rises to 91, 5,688 aftershocks recorded

BNPB also counted 1,286 injured and said the aftershock sequence could continue for another 3-4 weeks.

The death toll from the 7.7 magnitude earthquake in Nusa Tenggara Timur rose to 91 as of Sunday (23/8), according to the latest BNPB data. A total of 1,286 residents were injured, while the number of evacuees had reached 150,576 a day earlier. BNPB also recorded 5,688 aftershocks since the main quake on 15 August, with the largest measuring 6.2 and the smallest 1.1; 130 of them were felt by residents today. Manggarai recorded the most deaths, with 32, followed by Manggarai Timur with 31 and Nagekeo with 14. Earlier, the Manggarai Timur government reported more than 31,000 evacuees and widespread damage to homes, schools, health centers, roads and bridges. BNPB estimated the aftershocks could continue for about three to four weeks after the main quake.
