UMI medical team treats 120 disaster survivors in Manggarai highlands

The team is focusing on Cibal and Reok Barat, where several community clinics still lack doctors; top complaints were ARI, dermatitis and insomnia.

The Universitas Muslim Indonesia Makassar Volunteer Medical Team provided health services to 120 residents affected by a disaster in the mountainous area of Manggarai Regency, Nusa Tenggara Timur. The team moved to Cibal District and Reok Barat after coordinating with BPBD and the Manggarai Regency Health Office, which reported that several puskesmas in the area still had no doctors. On the mission, 110 patients came to the treatment tent and 10 others were examined at home. The most common complaints were acute respiratory infections, dermatitis and sleep disorders. The team also found children suffering from coughs and shortness of breath, while elderly residents had difficulty reaching health facilities. The trip to the site took three to four hours across mountain slopes and damaged roads after the disaster.
