KH Imam Jazuli Ready to Enter PBNU Chair Candidacy
The readiness would apply only if PC, PW and AHWA delegates at the NU congress want him to run.
The race for chairman of Pengurus Besar Nahdlatul Ulama has heated up after KH Imam Jazuli was said to be ready to be nominated to lead PBNU. Irfan Asy'ary Sudirman Wahid, or Gus Ipang Wahid, said the head of Pesantren Bina Insan Mulia Cirebon conveyed that readiness during their meeting on Sunday (30/8/2026). According to Gus Ipang, Imam Jazuli's candidacy is not a personal ambition, but depends on the wishes of muktamirin from Pengurus Cabang, Pengurus Wilayah, and Ahlul Halli wal Aqdi. He said Imam Jazuli is fit to run because he is seen as able to ease internal friction, communicate across factions, push NU economic independence, and drive pesantren transformation that adapts to digitalization without abandoning salaf identity.
