Iran and Oman map safe shipping route in the Strait of Hormuz
Tehran says maritime traffic is continuing, while technical and political consultations on the route remain under way.
Iran said talks with Oman on an operational mechanism to ensure safe shipping in the Strait of Hormuz have made progress. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said several rounds of meetings were held in Tehran on Friday and Saturday, focusing on broad principles and procedures for a safe shipping lane. According to Baqaei, the Omani delegation returned from Tehran on Saturday night after what he described as productive talks, while technical and political consultations continue. Tehran also said there has been no change in maritime traffic through the strategic waterway. The Strait of Hormuz has been a flashpoint since the United States and Israel launched a military campaign against Iran on 28 February.
