DPR approves Polri law revision, opens ranks to disabled

Article 21 now allows competency-based recruitment, while detailed requirements and training rules will be set by Peraturan Polri.

DPR approved the third amendment to Law No. 2 of 2002 on Polri in a plenary session of the 2025-2026 fifth sitting period on Tuesday, June 9. One change in Article 21 paragraph (2) states that Indonesian citizens with disabilities may be appointed as Polri members as long as they have the competencies needed by the institution. The new rule makes disability affirmation one of the substance of the revision. Article 21 also keeps the general requirements for applicants, including at least a high school diploma or equivalent, a minimum age of 18, physical and mental fitness, no prior prison sentence, and completion of Polri formation education and training. Further provisions on appointment requirements and development will be regulated in Peraturan Polri.
