Dozens breach NU congress hall after political iddah rule passes

Dozens of people broke through the plenary session area at the 35th Nahdlatul Ulama Congress at the Bahrul Ulum Islamic boarding school multipurpose building in Jombang on Sunday (30/8), after the forum passed the "political iddah period" clause. Pushing and shoving broke out when a crowd calling itself Nahdliyin Muda Indonesia asked the committee to meet them and protested the rules for candidacy for PBNU Chairman. The rule requires candidates to no longer be active in a political party or a party-affiliated organization at least one year before running. At the site, the security lines of Banser, SIGAP, and Pagar Nusa were breached; a backdrop was damaged and the digital attendance device was moved. The session chaired by Mohammad Nuh had also been suspended earlier before the rule was approved.
