Apple adds parental controls and child content filters at WWDC

Apple is expanding child-protection features on its devices through updates introduced at the Worldwide Developers Conference 2026. Along with tighter parental controls, the company is adding automatic image filtering and more detailed Screen Time settings. Under the “Ask” feature, parental approval now applies not only to app downloads, but also when a child wants to open certain websites outside preset filters. Apple is also requiring approval before a child account can start a conversation with an unknown person. The new filtering system will automatically blur images deemed inappropriate, including adult content, violence or visuals that could be psychologically distressing for children. A similar mechanism is also being applied to FaceTime video calls. Apple is also working with the American Academy of Pediatrics to develop guidance on healthy screen time for children and teenagers.
