US hits Iranian coastal sites as Hormuz truce breaks down

Why it matters: Oil rose more than 4% and only six vessels crossed the strait Sunday, underscoring risks to global energy flows.

The United States carried out another round of strikes on Iranian coastal and maritime targets as a temporary deal to stabilize the Strait of Hormuz unraveled. US Central Command said it hit coastal defense systems, missile and drone sites, small boats and other maritime capabilities. Iranian media reported strikes in Bandar Abbas, Qeshm island and Sirik, while Tehran warned it would take decisive measures. Reuters reported Iran’s Revolutionary Guards also attacked US bases in Kuwait and Bahrain. The renewed fighting has again threatened a waterway that normally carries about a fifth of traded crude oil and natural gas, pushing Brent crude up more than 4%.
