US hits Iran radar sites on Qeshm after intercepting 7 missiles

The US said six Iranian missiles were intercepted and one missed its target, sharpening risks to shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

United States Central Command struck Iranian surveillance radar facilities in Goruk and Qeshm Island after intercepting ballistic missiles and drones launched toward the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf region on June 5. According to CENTCOM, Iran fired seven ballistic missiles at Kuwait and Bahrain a few hours after four attack drones were shot down on their way to the strait. An initial US military assessment said six missiles were intercepted, while the seventh failed to reach its target. CENTCOM said the strike on the coastal radar installations was intended to prevent further maritime attacks. IRIB later reported several explosions were heard in Sirik, southern Iran, in the early hours of Saturday. The incident came as the Washington-Teheran ceasefire in place since April remained intact, but peace talks in Islamabad had produced no breakthrough.
