Iran fires warning missiles, drones at US warships in Gulf of Oman
What's new: The confrontation followed a US interception of the sanctioned stateless tanker M/T DAVINA in the Indian Ocean.
Iran's navy fired warning missiles and drones at US warships in the Gulf of Oman, state media reported Friday, in the latest maritime clash between Tehran and Washington. Iran accused the US Navy of harassing shipping and seizing commercial vessels and oil tankers. Earlier, US Indo-Pacific Command said American forces intercepted the sanctioned stateless vessel M/T DAVINA in the Indian Ocean overnight. The command said the operation was part of maritime enforcement aimed at disrupting illicit networks and vessels providing material support to Iran. The exchange adds to rising tensions around maritime security near the Strait of Hormuz, where the United States is tightening enforcement on Iranian oil shipments and Iran has repeatedly threatened shipping lanes.
