Trump threatens Iranian bridges, power plants as strikes hit night 12

Why it matters: Tehran warned it could hit regional energy infrastructure tied to US interests if Washington carries out the threat.

President Donald Trump threatened Wednesday to destroy an Iranian bridge or power plant each time Iran fires on a ship in the Strait of Hormuz, escalating a war that the U.S. military said entered its 12th straight night of strikes. U.S. Central Command said the latest five-hour operation hit Iranian maritime capabilities, missile and drone storage facilities, coastal surveillance sites and air defense assets. Iran, through state media, warned it would retaliate against infrastructure and energy facilities in the region where the United States has interests if the threat is carried out. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, speaking at an ASEAN meeting in the Philippines, said Iran was demanding control over traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global oil route.
