Trump’s Iran memo ties war truce to sanctions and $300 billion fund

What’s new: The interim text would reopen the Strait of Hormuz and leave nuclear terms to 60 days of follow-up talks.

A new US-Iran memorandum sketches an interim path to end the war, reopen the Strait of Hormuz and defer the hardest nuclear questions to later negotiations. Unlike the 2015 Obama-era nuclear accord, the 14-paragraph text is broad and leaves details unresolved. It commits Iran to forgo a nuclear weapon, while giving negotiators 60 days after finalization, with a possible extension, to work out the terms. The memo also envisions the United States ending all sanctions on an agreed schedule as part of a final deal and backing a reconstruction fund for Iran worth at least $300 billion with regional partners. The arrangement follows fighting that began after the US-Israeli attack on Iran in late February.
