Trump revives bid to remove Fed Gov. Lisa Cook over mortgage claims

What's next: Cook has three weeks to respond, and any new removal effort is likely to trigger another court fight over Fed independence.

President Donald Trump has restarted his effort to remove Federal Reserve Gov. Lisa Cook, sending her a letter that cites alleged false statements on mortgage agreements and demands a response within three weeks. The move follows a June Supreme Court ruling that left open the possibility of a new attempt if the White House followed additional due process steps. Cook, who was appointed by former President Joe Biden, denies wrongdoing. Her lawyer, Abbe Lowell, called the allegations baseless and said she would challenge any attempt to oust her. The earlier push to fire Cook was blocked in court. The dispute comes as Trump has repeatedly pressed the Fed to cut interest rates and has targeted central bank leadership.
