Singapore power tariff set to jump in July as gas costs surge
Why it matters: Analysts expect anything from a mid-single-digit rise to as much as 30%, lifting some monthly bills by about S$30.
Singapore households on regulated electricity prices are likely to pay more from July after higher natural gas costs pushed up the fuel component used to set the next quarter’s tariff. The current tariff is 29.72 Singapore cents per kilowatt-hour, including GST, and applies to 62.8% of households. The Energy Market Authority said the coming revision is based largely on average fuel costs from April to mid-June, a period when Middle East conflict strained supply chains and drove gas prices higher. S&P Global Energy’s Amanda Kang estimates a 20% to 25% increase, while Rystad Energy’s David Chew expects a mid-range single-digit rise. EMA said U-Save rebates of S$110 to S$190 will be paid in July to eligible households.
