Prabowo claims junior judges' pay rose 280 percent
The president said junior judges’ income is now above the ASEAN average, while the chief justice’s pay exceeds Singapore’s.
President Prabowo Subianto said the government has raised the income of the most junior judges by 280 percent. He made the remarks in a state address at the annual session of the MPR RI and the joint session of the DPR RI-DPD RI at the MPR/DPR RI Building, Senayan, Jakarta, on Friday, Aug. 14, 2026. Prabowo said the increase was the largest in several decades and placed judges’ income in Indonesia, especially for junior judges, above the average in ASEAN countries. He also said the chief justice reported that the income of the chief justice of the Supreme Court of Indonesia is now higher than that of the chief justice of Singapore. Prabowo linked the raise to efforts to preserve judicial independence, while stressing that judges’ welfare must go hand in hand with accountability.
