NU congress bars Rais Aam and PBNU chief from political posts
The ban applies only to the two congress mandate holders, while other NU officials may still hold dual roles, including ministerial posts.
The Commission on Organization meeting at the 35th Nahdlatul Ulama Congress at Pondok Pesantren Bahrul Ulum in Tambakberas, Jombang, agreed to ban dual political posts for the Rais Aam and the Chairman of PBNU. The agreement was reached by consensus and will be brought to a plenary session for approval.
Prof. Asrorun Niam Sholeh said the ban covers posts such as party chairman, leaders of the DPR and DPD, president, governor and minister. The rule applies only to the two congress mandate holders because they are seen as symbols of the organization’s leadership. NU administrators outside the Rais Aam and the Chairman, both at PBNU and at lower levels, may still hold political office or certain public posts.
