Muzani and Foreign Minister Sugiono fly to Iran for Khamenei funeral

MPR Chairman Ahmad Muzani and Foreign Minister Sugiono are scheduled to leave Jakarta for Masyhad, Iran, on Thursday night to attend the funeral of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Muzani said the two are traveling as special envoys of President Prabowo Subianto. The delegation is expected to arrive at about 06.00 local time on Friday and head straight to the funeral site before noon. After the ceremony, the Indonesian delegation is scheduled to pay respects and meet with Iran's Foreign Minister and the Parliament Speaker, then return to Jakarta the same day without staying overnight. The trip has sparked domestic controversy after Muzani's role as an MPR leader was described as a presidential assignment.
