3 of Ali Khamenei’s sons carry coffin in Tehran, Mojtaba absent

Three sons of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei—Mostafa, Meysam and Masoud Khamenei—carried their father’s coffin during the funeral procession at the Great Mosalla of Imam Khomeini in Tehran on Sunday (5/7). Iran’s state television showed the three praying behind the coffin along with other family members. Mojtaba Khamenei was not seen at the ceremony. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf were also seen leading prayers. The funeral events continued on Monday (6/7) with a major procession in central Tehran, then moved to Qom on Tuesday (7/7) for a final tribute. CNN Indonesia reported that Ali Khamenei is scheduled to be buried on 9 July 2026 in his hometown, Mashhad.
