Gen Z protest in Germany turns violent; stores looted, police injured

Police deployed water cannon in Frankfurt, Hamburg and Cologne after molotov cocktails, stones and fireworks were thrown.

Gen Z demonstrations in Germany turned violent on Saturday as masked groups looted shops in Frankfurt and clashes broke out in several cities. Police said several officers were injured, while crowds in Frankfurt threw stones, fireworks and molotov cocktails. Officers responded with water cannon and pepper spray. A gun store was also looted; police arrested one suspect and seized two firearms. The rally by the GenZ regelt! group had been relatively peaceful earlier in the day, but tensions rose at night when some participants refused to disperse. Riots were also reported in Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne, Leipzig and Bonn.
