Flores quake death toll rises to 83, 110,785 displaced
BNPB also tallied 986 injured, 44,946 damaged homes and 4,258 aftershocks through Friday afternoon.
BNPB said the death toll from the M 7.7 quake in Flores, East Nusa Tenggara, rose to 83 by Friday (21/8) at 16.00 WIB. The number of injured reached 986 and the displaced population climbed to 110,785. Acting head of BNPB's Center for Data, Information and Disaster Communication Berton SP Panjaitan said the added fatalities were recorded in Manggarai, Manggarai Timur, Nagekeo and Ngada regencies. Preliminary damage data showed 44,946 homes affected, including 17,176 severely damaged, 9,758 moderately damaged and 18,013 lightly damaged. BMKG also recorded 4,258 aftershocks through Friday, 118 of them felt by residents. BMKG earthquake and tsunami director Wijayanto said the aftershock sequence could continue for 3-4 weeks.
