KBRI Tokyo on alert after M7.1 quake hits Kumamoto, Japan

The Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo urged Indonesian citizens in Kumamoto Prefecture to remain calm, stay alert, and follow guidance from Japanese authorities after a magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck the area on Tuesday afternoon. The quake hit around 4:35 p.m. local time and briefly triggered a tsunami warning for Ariake Sea and Yatsushiro Sea. KBRI said it has so far received no information that any WNI were killed. WNI were asked to keep monitoring official updates from the Japan Meteorological Agency, keep their phones on, and conserve battery power for emergency coordination. KBRI Tokyo is also coordinating with the WNI community in Kumamoto and local authorities. Emergency hotlines have been opened through KBRI Tokyo and KJRI Osaka for WNI affected by the quake or in need of assistance.
