Iran war death toll tops 7,300 as 15-week conflict ends in deal

What's new: The count excludes wider regional deaths, and analysts say blackout conditions mean the final toll may stay disputed for years.

More than 7,300 people were reported killed in Iran and Lebanon during the 15-week US-Israeli war with Iran, even as Washington and Tehran reached a preliminary agreement to end the conflict. Official figures cited by BBC and other outlets show at least 3,468 deaths in Iran and about 3,700 to 3,912 in Lebanon, while Israel reported 26 deaths and the US military said 13 service members were killed. Analysts and rights groups said the true toll is likely higher because internet shutdowns, media restrictions and the presence of armed groups made verification difficult. The deal, signed this week, opens a 60-day period for further negotiations as the economic and humanitarian damage across the region continues to be assessed.
