Iran rejects U.S. sanctions threat, calls Washington desperate
Abbas Araqchi said the latest pressure repeats failed tactics as the war nears its sixth month.
Iran refused to back down after the United States prepared a new package of sanctions described as the heaviest in history. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, in a video on Telegram on Sunday, said the Donald Trump administration’s threats showed Washington was running out of options after nearly six months of war.
Araqchi said the latest economic pressure only repeated an old strategy that Tehran считает had already failed. He also urged the United States to speak respectfully if it wanted a way out of the conflict. In Washington, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is scheduled to hold a news conference on Monday local time after earlier warning of economic consequences for countries that help Iran.
The conflict has also disrupted shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. According to reports, Iran has restricted the passage of oil tankers without permits, while China is said to buy more than 80 percent of Iranian oil shipped by sea, based on Kpler 2025 data.
